A Glimpse of Christmas.
I want to share with you one of my favourite works of Renaissance art by the sculptor who I consider to be the greatest figurative sculptor of all time – Donatello.

Donatello (1386-1466), a sculptor of the Early Renaissance in Italy, possessed the most extra-ordinary ability to depict and evoke emotion – and this is almost 600 years ago. In this work, despite the simplicity of the composition, the emotion is magnetically powerful.
With all the glitz and glitter that surrounds Christmas, this image speaks straight to the heart of the real message of Christmas and that is love. The unadorned honesty of this image, the adoration between mother and child, between the Virgin and the Christ Child, says all that needs to be said.
So this is to wish you love this Christmas. And for those of you who may be facing a difficult Christmas, light for the coming year.
